Ponta das Canas Resort
With its 2 km of fine white sand, the beach at Ponta das Canas resort is known for its calm and unthreatening water. The resort is 34 km (21 miles) from the city center and 40 km (25 miles) from the airport and still has a working fishing community. The water is warm and calm and the sunset is one of the most beautiful in the world.
Its name comes from its geographical characteristics – it is a sandy promontory, or point (hence ponta in Portuguese) – and the main agricultural product of the area – sugar cane (cana in Portuguese). The community that colonized Ponta das Canas was vigorously engaged both in cultivating sugar cane and in fishing, since the beach is protected by the promontory and provides a natural harbor.
As the area has been developed and lots sold for holiday homes and tourist accommodation, agriculture and fishing have reduced in importance, but many of the local residents still spend their lives doing exactly the same things they always have done – fishing and growing sugar cane.
Ponta das Canas has become an area for holidays and recreation with a family atmosphere. Its distance from the main roads gives it a sense of calm, while the facilities and services that are available for tourists fully justify its place on the international tourism routes and its preferred status among our visitors from Argentina.

The Atmosphere at Ponta das Canas resort
Ponta das Canas is a place for family holidays and leisure. It appears to be a family stronghold, but many of the original residents still live here where they were born, fishing and providing services for tourists and the owners of holiday homes.
Ponta das Canas has a peaceful atmosphere and is a long way from main roads and the stress of traffic. There are bars, restaurants and services, so you will not need to leave the resort unless you want to.
